Born in 1994 in Paris, Camille Chastang lives and works between Normandy and Paris. After graduating in 2015 in Textile Design from ENSAAMA (Paris), then in 2017 from the Beaux-Arts at the Villa Arson (Nice), Camille Chastang's work has been presented at the 12th Parallèle festival at the Château de Servières (Marseille), at the Cultural Centre of Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, at the Grande Halle de la Villette (Paris) or during the 72nd edition of the Young Creation Prize at the Fiminco Foundation (Romainville). In 2021, the artist benefited from a residency at the Drawing Factory (Paris) and at the Yvon Lambert Collection (Avignon) in 2022. In 2023, his work has been presented in his solo show at the Galerie Double V, at the Pierre Yovanovitch exhibition at the Villa Noailles, at the Bains douches in Laval and at the Bullukian Foundation. It will be exhibited in 2024 at the cloister of the FRAC Picardie.

If Camille Chastang's practice can take the form of ceramics, wallpapers as well as installations, the drawing she practices on a daily basis remains the starting point of her plastic and theoretical reflections. Driven by the desire to deconstruct the hierarchy distinguishing the so-called "minor" arts, often assigned to women artists, from the "major" arts, associated with their male counterparts, Camille Chastang cultivates the desire to (re)reconcile the decorative arts and the fine arts by deconstructing the hegemonic classification of subjects and mediums.
By appropriating the motif, especially floral, as a subject, she asserts her admiration for decorative elements and explores the political and feminine potential they represent. Going beyond the ornamental and figurative dimension that is generally attributed to it, the plant becomes in Camille Chastang's installations a tool of emancipation that reverses the value relations between subjects, content and form, and allows the exhibition space to be reappropriated by going beyond the dichotomous boundaries between public and private, masculine and feminine.
