In parallel to his work as a poet and writer, Pierre Alferi (1963-2023) drew continuously and intensively for many years. This practice has long remained
discreet was only shared from 2020 on its Enseignes website. This solo exhibition at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, where he has been teaching since 2015, presents to the public for the first time a substantial set of about fifty drawings, made between 2006 and 2021.
These drawings explore the “pictorial couplings of word and image”, about which Pierre Alferi regularly wrote. They were for him both a problem of representation and a familiar path, among others, to explore his moods and passions. Humour is expressed on several levels, in discrepancies or connivance between words and images, and through word games, between them and with the image. The different modalities of encounters between the two constitute the central issue of his pictorial work.
